Celebrates Professor Steven Allison’s

Recognition as 2024 ESA Fellow


Irvine, Calif., April 30, 2024 – The University of California, Irvine Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences proudly announces that Professor Steven Allison has been named a 2024 Fellow by the Ecological Society of America (ESA), one of the world’s largest communities of professional ecologists.

Professor Allison, a faculty member of both the Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and the School of Physical Sciences Department of Earth System Science, has been recognized for his significant contributions to microbial and ecosystem ecology. His groundbreaking work, which focuses on the resilience of microbial communities to drought and their impact on soil carbon cycling, has advanced our understanding of climate change effects.

As the director of UC Irvine’s Newkirk Center for Science and Society and the founder of the Ridge to Reef Graduate Training Program, Professor Allison has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to interdisciplinary education and professional development for students pursuing careers in environmental fields.
